Audiobooks

I have been a big fan of audiobooks for many years, starting back when a book came out on cassette tape. Finally technology advanced and a book was on 6 CD’s that you had to keep handy. Now, I can keep countless books all on my phone ready to go whenever I choose!

My favorite times to listen are on runs or walks, car rides or when I’m crafting (paint by number, embroidery) something and don’t want to be looking up at a TV. I also listen to books when I’m cleaning house or doing some other task at home – it allows for so much flexibility.

They are great for kids too, for instance my nephews will listen to a story in bed as they fall asleep. Also, what a great thing to do on a car ride as a family instead of defaulting to screen time (no judgment on that we definitely use screens in the car at times).

Some of my favorite titles are listed below – click the book cover to link to Audible:

1. At Home in Mitford – Jan Karon

Sweet and laid back stories about a small town minister with robust characters you can’t help but love – a nice easy listen and there are many books in the series.

2. Harry Potter

Obviously a hit series but the narrator Jim Dale is phenomenal and really nails the whole series!

3. Redemption – Karen Kingsbury

I’m a sucker for family stories that focus on the different nuclear families and this Christian based series does that well and there are several books in this extensive series.

4. Orange is the New Black – Piper Kerman

This had its time in the limelight – I was never interested in watching the show – but the book is very informative and interesting.

5. The Bible Comes Alive – Your Story Hour

Our kids are getting more and more into listening to audiobooks in the car and this is a great one we can do together. There are Bible story options and also historical stories to choose from. I linked the historical audible that includes Columbus, the Pilgrims, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright brothers and more.

6. The Pilgrims Progress – John Bunyan

A great allegory of “Christian” and his journey to the Celestial City (Heaven) with the trials he encounters along the way. I couldn’t find my exact version to link but previewed this one and it sounded good.

Some other highly rated (by customer reviews and my nephews) kid friendly options are listed below!

7. Winnie the Pooh

8. Paddington the Bear

9. Magic Tree House

10. Matilda

11. Berenstain Bears

12. Dr. Seuss

A compilation of stories that includes the cat in the hat, Horton hears a who, the grinch, the Lorax and several others.

13. The Water Horse

14. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Several books in the series

15. The Adventures of Captain Underpants

Several books in the series

16. Treasury for Children: warm and joyful animal tales

This is my next book to get, read by Jim Dale and he’s one of my favorites!

17. Peter Rabbit

Hi! I’m Emily Saladino and I am excited to be sharing ideas on lifestyle, homemaking, child rearing and spiritual growth. My husband, Josh, and I have 3 kids that we are raising in western Michigan where I am originally from. We aren’t in our forever home yet – in the process of searching and praying for the perfect piece of land or existing house that just speaks to us – out in the country with space to roam. Both of us are Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and I work part time to stay home with the kids the majority of the week. I enjoy decorating, fashion, cooking and overall management of our home – striving to make it healthy, happy and slowing down the pace of life. Hopefully this page can be a place of inspiration and add value to your day
