Family Hiking with Littles

We have been doing more outdoor activities this summer than ever before since having kids – thanks to covid and our kids getting a little bigger. Our girls often need a “ride” while hiking still so we decided to upgrade our child carrier backpack and wow what a difference in comfort!

This past weekend we tried out Saul Lake Bog Nature Preserve – it’s an anaerobic bog they are restoring and such a unique and fun place to walk with the kids. We can’t wait to go back and see the fall colors!

Truth be told Josh is usually the one carrying the girls and he was really happy with the fit and comfort of the Osprey Poco child carrier. There are two size options for cargo capacity but we just went with the smaller as we don’t do especially long hikes at this point.

Both girls – 20 pounds and 30 pounds can comfortably ride in it if Georgia needs a rest and we switch them out. There is a built in sun shade that packs away out of the way very nicely and that’s been great to keep the sun off their faces.

both girls wanted to stretch their legs – keep up mama!

It has several elastic pockets up by the child and on the waist belt for the person wearing it. The belt is easily adjustable for different sized wearers. In the back it has 2 pockets for storage and I can fit a couple diapers, wipes, water bottle and some small snacks. Anything more than that and you would either want the bigger capacity carrier or have someone carry a backpack with supplies.

Georgia needed a lift!

The weight of the pack and child are well distributed and it has good ventilation to keep both people as cool as possible. We noticed that both girls looked very comfortable despite their difference in sizes. You can easily change the height of the seat to fit a larger vs smaller child.

It has been a great investment to keep people comfortable and having fun this summer and we look forward to using it this coming fall as well!

Hi! I’m Emily Saladino and I am excited to be sharing ideas on lifestyle, homemaking, child rearing and spiritual growth. My husband, Josh, and I have 3 kids that we are raising in western Michigan where I am originally from. We aren’t in our forever home yet – in the process of searching and praying for the perfect piece of land or existing house that just speaks to us – out in the country with space to roam. Both of us are Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and I work part time to stay home with the kids the majority of the week. I enjoy decorating, fashion, cooking and overall management of our home – striving to make it healthy, happy and slowing down the pace of life.
