New Years Resolutions

There is something exciting about the start of a new year – a feeling of new beginnings and unknowns. Like many people out there I like to make a few goals for myself of things I want to start or stop or accomplish. But, easier said than done and often the goal is forgotten rather quickly. According to Philadelphia.cbslocal.com (it came up first in my quick google search)

“Referring to the statistics, only 64 percent (of people making resolutions) last longer than the first month, and only 46 percent last longer than six months. Even more discouraging is the statistic that only 14 percent of people over 50 actually achieve their resolution compared to 39 percent of people in their 20’s.”

Things that make it more likely to keep your resolutions include:

  1. make them as specific as possible
  2. set a timeline but give yourself grace as it takes time to form a habit
  3. don’t expect perfection, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing as you work towards your goals!
  4. Make a reasonable/realistic plan to accomplish each resolution
  5. Make your goals visible in a list you see frequently or on a bulletin board, somewhere to be a regular reminder of what you want this year

I decided I would post my resolutions for the year here – accountability is helpful to keep me motivated and I think its kinda fun to see what other people are going for in the new year!. I have a combination of big and small goals but all are important to me and I’m excited to see what 2020 has in store!

  1. Begin exercise routine – 3x/wk I have just gone through almost 3 years of being pregnant, post-partum and nursing/pumping for babies so decided not to worry much about this until I was done pumping for our last baby……well the time has come and I’m excited to work this back into my life and feel more fit!
  2. Drink 64oz of water daily This is hard for me for some reason…..going to have a glass as soon as I go downstairs in the morning. I researched and downloaded a highly rated app called Waterminder that tracks and sends reminders to my phone/apple watch throughout the day to help keep me ontrack.
  3. More purposeful time with God – as soon as I wake up The most important thing anyone can do for themselves!!!! Its easy for me to forgo this when I’m tired and having kids is tiring as well as unpredictable for your routine…but those are the times you need His presence the most! I have my Bible and devotional by my bed as well as the Bible app on my phone which has great options for daily readings so there will be no reason I can’t get even a small amount of time in devotion daily.
  4. Finish Bucilla Christmas stockings I started my first one (for Jacob our oldest) a year ago and its mayyyyybe ¼ done, yikes! But the kids are getting old enough to know what stockings are so its time to get these things beaded, appliqued and embroidered!!!
  5. Finish Cosette’s painting Doing paint by number paintings is super fun and I have one for our other 2 kids in their rooms but the babies is sitting around unpainted and making me feel guilty……..2020 is its year to get on the nursery wall!!!
  6. Back to meal planning This is the most time saving and money saving way for our family to handle dinnertime and to handle it healthfully. For us that means plant based meals and its much less stressful for me to have it planned out and prepped ahead of time.
  7. Switch to Natural Cosmetics Over the past year I’ve done this with my household products and some beauty products but have to find some alternatives I like for cosmetics. This is a process I do best in stages because it can be overwhelming and pricey. I also didn’t want to just throw away things I had already purchased as that seemed a waste of resources (physical and financial).

So there ya have it – my new years resolutions/goals!! What are your goals for the new year? Share them with me, I would love to know!

Hi! I’m Emily Saladino and I am excited to be sharing ideas on lifestyle, homemaking, child rearing and spiritual growth. My husband, Josh, and I have 3 kids that we are raising in western Michigan where I am originally from. We aren’t in our forever home yet – in the process of searching and praying for the perfect piece of land or existing house that just speaks to us – out in the country with space to roam. Both of us are Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and I work part time to stay home with the kids the majority of the week. I enjoy decorating, fashion, cooking and overall management of our home – striving to make it healthy, happy and slowing down the pace of life. Hopefully this page can be a place of inspiration and add value to your day

Emily, I am a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel. I read that you now use natural household cleaners. What company do you like best and why?
