Stain Remover DIY
Having 3 kids means having daily stains on their clothes to deal with. I have tried several safe stain removers and not been impressed but have FINALLY found one that’s been working well for us. Since popsicle and ice cream season is on the horizon, it couldn’t have come at a better time!
EWG recommends hydrogen peroxide for cleaning and stain removal. Also, it gives castile soap a score of 1, the best you could ask for! I find that information reassuring when using this DIY recipe, especially since it is generally used on my childrens clothing.
1 Part Liquid Castile Soap
2 Parts Hydrogen Peroxide
Lemon Essential Oils – I add a dropper full to 16 oz bottle
Hydrogen peroxide needs to be in a dark container or it will begin to breakdown. I prefer to mix the ingredients together in an amber spray bottle to spray directly on the stain. Using a scrub brush or toothbrush I scrub it into the stained area and usually let it sit several hours or overnight before washing. Some tough stains I have treated 2x with good results but generally once does the trick. Also, washing in warm water helps the soap work more effectively.
It’s always a good idea to test a small area first if it’s something delicate but I haven’t had any issues at this point.
