Life Update!
A lot has been going on for us at home which is why I took a few weeks off from getting posts up. We just moved to a new-to-us house (YAY! but also sooo much work!!) and with all the upheaval I felt I needed a few weeks to get things under control at home before resuming my normal blog posts! I have missed posting and so thought I would start with an update this week and then resume normal postings going forward.
With the pandemic my husband Josh was home for about 14 weeks and did the stay-at-home dad thing as we kept the kids home from daycare during that time. They normally go to daycare 2 days/wk when I work. Two weeks ago Josh was able to start back full time so that meant the kids were back at daycare as well, so there’s been another adjustment for everyone getting back to how our routine was before Covid. It’s all going well just felt like a lot and I needed to step back from Housesaladino for a few weeks.
So more info on our move……. we had been renting a house for a few years while we waited to pay student loans and then find a house on property (land was our priority). We put a few offers on houses over the months but nothing stuck. In June this house was listed and our offer accepted and then a few weeks later after inspections and negotiations we moved in!
The house was built in the late ‘70’s with minimal updates to it since then. It has 3 bedrooms with full bath for the kids on the second floor. Main floor has the dining room, kitchen, 2 smaller living rooms and 3 season porch area. The walkout basement has another bedroom and bathroom, living room and bonus room area.
We are looking forward to doing some remodeling and updating to get it up to speed and in line with our tastes and needs. Currently there is no master suite which we plan to resolve by turning a main floor living room and adjoining 3 season room into our master suite. Also on the agenda for the main floor is a full kitchen renovation and hopefully a small addition to get a mudroom/laundry room plus a butlers pantry.
Outside we have plenty of room for the kids to play and explore. We hope to clear some space to get a horse, chickens, garden and fruit trees. BUT, one thing at a time! We have had so much fun exploring the property and seeing what flowers and trees we have. There are many wild berry bushes and we’ve been happily eating the raspberries, blackberries and black caps as they ripen. Also, my husband has been keeping tabs on what trees may be sugar maples as he would like to try tapping them for sap next year.
My vision for the house is “English cottage” and I can’t wait to get started on making that vision come to fruition. I plan to share the process here and on Instagram but it definitely won’t be an overnight transformation. It feels so good to be settled into our new house and getting back into our normal routine around here, thanks for sticking around and I hope you will enjoy what’s to come here at Housesaladino!

Hi! I’m Emily Saladino and I am excited to be sharing ideas on lifestyle, homemaking, child rearing and spiritual growth. My husband, Josh, and I have 3 kids that we are raising in western Michigan where I am originally from. We aren’t in our forever home yet – in the process of searching and praying for the perfect piece of land or existing house that just speaks to us – out in the country with space to roam. Both of us are Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and I work part time to stay home with the kids the majority of the week. I enjoy decorating, fashion, cooking and overall management of our home – striving to make it healthy, happy and slowing down the pace of life. Hopefully this page can be a place of inspiration and add value to your day
